It aims to help you identify different forms of domestic abuse, why it occurs, the facts and myths about domestic abuse, the implications for someone leaving an abusive relationship, the services available in Derbyshire and how to refer into them. The course would act as a refresher for anyone who has attended domestic abuse training some years ago. It is suggested that that this course is attended prior to attending MARAC training. The course is aimed at: Any agency in Derbyshire wishing to learn more about domestic abuse and  how to refer into services, including
  • Frontline staff  / middle managers in agencies who may deal with those affected by domestic abuse– g. Police, Fire Service, Children and Younger Adults inc Schools, Adult Social Services, health representatives, including GPs, housing & homelessness staff, probation service providers, drug and alcohol workers, voluntary and community groups supporting victims of DA etc
  • All community safety partners and professionals wishing to know more, particularly if they have not attended a similar course in the last three years
  • Elected Members interested in the Domestic Abuse agenda
  • Individuals who also wish to attend MARAC training who have not attended domestic abuse awareness training recently.
Please note: Research tells us that 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men will have experienced domestic abuse at some time in the course of their life. If you are a manager requiring staff to book onto this course, please be sensitive to this fact if staff seem unwilling to attend. More information?
